Which lecture methods would be the most effective, passive or active?

Motivating Learner

So many Career Colleges students come with lot of personal problems that makes motivating difficult. I will ask questions regarding where do they see themselves after graduation and show them the biger picture.

Active Learning

I use a variety of teaching methods in my class. Active learning has been very successful.

New Instructor

This is my first time to teach, been in the field for 15 years. Teaching a group is really different but after reading the topics and participating in this forum enhances my knowledge on how to be very comfortable, confident and be profesional at all times. Any more suggestions on how to be a good talker in front of my class because I am so nervous even I am knowledgeable in the field that I will be teaching.

different types of activities

It is important to incorporate different types of learning activitites in the classroom, so the instructor can send the message he or she is trying to explain and the students can understand better.

Professionalism

The one thing I try to stress to my students is professionalism. Being professional in the work force is very important. It helps keep the retention of your customers, staff, and outside encounters.

A Well-prepared Syllabus

As well prepared as we can be with a syllabus, we cannot prepare it as well as we would like because of a number of reasons. 1-We cannot access them until the last minute. 2-We are no longer able to edit them.

I didn't see this in the module, so I thought I'd ask... Does anyone here use the Socratic Method? If so, what does this method mean to you, and how do you use it in your class?

All instructors should attempt to address distinct learning styles by use differentiated learning techniques.

As with most in life, you only get a chance to make a first impression once. The tone of the classroom will be set from the first impression. Students will immediately gauge the level of commitment has by the first impression.

Taking care of the mechanical aspects of the classroom from the outset allows instructors to focus on the content. More importantly, ensuring that all the classroom mechanical aspects of the classroom are understood by all students avoids several misunderstandings.

I have found that the use of applying what is learned to what has already been instilled is quite effective in the use of memory in learning.

Freedom Writing and Active Learning

I am considering integrating a "Freedom Writers" aspect to my courses next quarter. The idea is that students would use writing as a means to not only work through their own problems, but also to inspire others. Has anyone used the "Freedom Writers" book before? I need tips/suggestions! Thanks in advanced!

learning disabilities

The students with learning disabilities need more help from the teachers.Also they should be self motivated to over come the problem.

language vocabulary

grip on the spoken language is useful to understand the subject,also to assimilate the concept.

Learning groups are help to increase group participation,student involvement and active learning.

It is very important that creating interest about the content of the class, by that the student can motivate to concentrate on the subject.
