understanding students characteristics

by knowing your students background as an Instructor it gives you an idea how to teach and convey learning to your students.

retention

Sometimes a student chooses not be be retained since a course is not all they believed it would be. Especially the young

The overly motivated student!

Have you ever experienced the overly motivated student, or over-achiever? They want to be called on to answer every question. They want your full attention after class...while other students are waiting. They don't pick up on your clues that you have many students to help. They really could care less about rewards, because the only award which matters to them is dominating your full attention and time.

Students as customers

The students are our customers but not our only customers. Students, instructors, employers, ect..., all have an interest in the outcomes from the training.

Life Experiences and learning

As a Medical Assistant instructor I have to use real life stories to get the students interested. When I do, they open up about their healthcare experiences and it really makes the class more enjoyable!

Providing autonomy without compromising the lesson plan or objectives

The discussion on autonomy was helpful to me. I have been quite resistant to allowing students to detemine what may be done in class for fear that it would most likely compromise the day's lesson plan. I'm beginning to rethink my misgivings. I now realize that autonomy can strongly influence student motivation. The key is to figure out how to give up some control to the students without compromising the lesson plan. Students can be allowed to make certain decisions during daily activities that really have no negative effect on that day's lesson. For instance, I can give students the choice of making their brownies with or without nuts or let them decide in which order they can perform their assigned tasks. By giving students the freedom to make these small choices, it seems to please and motivate them.

Excitement

Can you ever be to enthusiatsic about what you are teaching?

Rapport

Can you become too friendly with a student while establishng a rapport that crosses over from student/teacher to student/friend?

Relativity

What if your adult student's job experience is not relaive to the class you are teaching. Will they still feel like their experience is beneficial to their learning?

Student Aid

If you have someone who has a learning disability like dyslexia would it be unfair to the other students if you gave them special help ?

Student Retention

I find that when I get a new student I go out of my way to find out something about them, likes & dislikes. I try and get to know them & when I learn their personality I help them to take their strong points and apply it to their trade. I find it helps them to build their confidence because they had it in them all along.

Stay Motivated

Stay motivated as an instructor, so the student will stay motivated as well. If an instructor finds him or herself losing the motivation, take a step back and think about how you can get the student involved in their education process. How can you help the students learn and apply that knowledge to their field of student to be able to get employed. The instructor should continue with their learning process to stay up to date with the lastest technology and teaching styles.

Knowing Styles of Instruction

Instructors should show respect to the students and develop a trust with the students as a whole. Instructor should demonstrate a variety of learning style for the many different learning styles of the students, and understand the difference between your traditional student and the adult learner.

Knowing Your Students

Knowing Your Students Student who are right out of high school prefer to be passive students where there is more structure. While the more adult students prefer to be active students, they like to be engaged in the process of their learning right away. The instructor should set the atmosphere of the classroom on the very first day to set the tone for the rest of the term. It should be positive, and open, letting the students know that they will be involved their learning process.

Adult Learners

Adult Learners Adult Learners are not your traditional students, meaning that they are not right out of high school. An adult learner has been in the work field for some time and would like to apply their working experience to the classroom. Adult learners may feel apprehensive at first about returning to the classroom. The instructor should assure the adult learner by encouraging and acknowledge well done work.

students retention

we as instructors are the front line. We need to keep the students informed and respect there needs. Always keep them interested in all material be taught. Answer questions in a professional manner.

ED102 Student Retention

I was able to gain alot of strategies in teaching the adult learners. I keep their attention focused on what we need to learn today (day by day)... Tomorrow is a new day with more and better topics.

Motivating

I walk around my clinic all day when I see students doing something correct I praise them if I see them doing something wrong I correct them in a way that they can learn from there mistakes.

Participation How

I have often had students that will not participate in the class learning activities or if they dom it is very little. I would like to make each student feel like they are apart of the group and they feel like particating.

Security

With the shottings that has happened in the past few years at college campus it is so important for students to feel safe. I feel that as much as college cost there should be security in place on every college campus..
