Crosswords

I think crosswords are a good idea for open book quizzes.

Secret Identity

Using the secret identity game to involve students, will have the students moving around the classroom interacting with one another, which builds relationships with other classmates, as well as giving the opportunity to stretch their legs. This game also optimizes the chance for the students not only to learn the subject matter such as a term and definition, but also gives the students much needed experience in asking open ended questions to get the answers, which will also spill over in practical settings when the students must interact with clients in order to ask appropriate questions to get much needed information on the patient. It is also an opportunity for the instructor to be involved in the class activity, which promotes shared learning.

visual learners

50% of the students are visual learners and its easier for them to catch on. In some chapters with the lecturer i may show a surgery it's very exciting to the students

word parts

The word part is a little trickie for some of my students but we have to break down and some time do a couple of activities for them to get it

group activity

I have tried the family feud game and it works out really good far as testing student on how much they have learned about those chapters before the test

mid brain

I learned that midbrain controls alot with the student learning and remembering the terminoloy and test questions about the assignments they have

Beat the Clock

It is great when the confidence level in understanding med term heightens and the time no longer makes the students nervous. Confidence emerges within themselves.

Let's play ball

Competition can be good and based on the way the students process can allow the entire team to have success!

Instructor enjoying the games

As I was going through this module, I felt excited to learn about the many different games our classes can play. I will put them into teams and do a championship also.

Charade

this game is great for timid and shy people in the class because it helps them to loosen up and become comfortable.

crossword puzzles

these things are great to use when some students get finis with their work faster than others and this will keep them from interrupting them.

Ball Toss

I think this is a great activity that would be very good to use when i see my students falling a sleep. this will help me to energize the room.

Silly, not interesting

Sorry, but I have to mention this despite the negative tone. I will not sing, hum or dance the Macarena. If you knew what they were actually saying in Spanish, you would realize how sexually degrading the lyrics are toward women. Dance crazes are fine & all, but just not that one. Had to vent a bit...sorry. Thanks.

Silly, yet interesting

So I have to say that these suggestions are indeed a bit silly. However, some do have some value to them. For example, on one hand the T-shirt idea is pretty bad and I wouldn't try this for an in-class assignment. Just my opinion. Thanks.

TV & Learning

Who knew that TV networks and theories or models of learning could be paired together. On the surface, they seem to be stark contrasts of each other: one builds brain cells where the other destroys them. :) Seriouly. Has anyone seen what's "popular" on television these days? Don't mean to be judgmental though. Nevertheless, these statistics that TV networks have about maintaining attention do say a lot when it comes to learning new material. Thanks.

long term memory

I know now that my student will have to be happy in order to memorize things on the test.

Cutest ideas ever!!!!

I really like some of the ideas that were presented in this first lesson. This may be the most enjoyable course I've taken thus far. Good stuff!

HIPPA

IN MY CLASSES WE DISCUSS HOW IMPORTANT CONFIDENTIALITY IS IN A DOCTORS OFFICE IS. I TELL THEM YOU DONT KNOW WHO IS IN THE OFFICE. iT COULD BE THE MAILMAN, TOU DONT TALK ABOUT YOUR PATIENTS OR THEIR PROBLEMS. WHAT YOU DO IN THE OFFICE REFLECTS ON THE DOCTOR AND HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU IN THE OFFICE OR ON THE PHONE. I WORKED IN AN OFFICE WHERE A MA WENT OUT TO LUNCH AND WAS TALKING ABOUT A PATIENT, MENTIONED THE PATIENT BY NAME AND A FRIEND OF THE PATIENT WAS SITTING AT THE TABLE NEXT TO HERS. NATURALLY THE FRIEND SAID SOMETHING TO THE PATIENT AND IT GOT BACK TO THE DR. THE MA WAS FIRED. I TELL THIS STORY TO MY STUDENTS, AND TELL THEM TO KEEP QUIET.

Wheel of Fortune

I have a disk from a Medical Terminology book that utilizes the TV gameshow Wheel of Fortune. The students seem to enjoy this format.

mapping and notecards

I have starting using a mapping design that allows the student too see the main points in the chapter before lecturing. This has brought great success. I also love using the notecard for students but never realize how it would be beneficial using them in group activities in class. I used notecards studying during my undergrad. I enjoyed your modules and you gave me great insight for teaching medical terminology. I also think a lot of those activities could be used in other classes. Thanks Brandon
