I had increased my use of open ended questions in the class room & have fould the this brings more students into the discussion.

Very Good! Some teachers do not use questioning enough. Like you, I find using questions essential to teaching.

Yes, before I knew question terminology I often found myself starting with a closed question, changing to an open and then!, an application question. In the automotive repair field these three types seem to have natural flow to them. I.E. What type of tire is the safest for use in higher speed highway driving?... What type of synthetic and common materials are used to make these tires?... What other type of vehicals could use these newer type super tires? For once I guess I was doing something right.

I would ask the question of when do we find the torque converter at coupling speed and what is the ratio at this point? Then I will work my way around the room looking for the answer but not saying the answer back, maybe geting some different answers at that point asking them think and work out the operation of the torque converter when this operation is taking place, then taking a answer from some one then asking the room if this is correct or not. Then I will say the correct answer, asking then to tell me why this opertion and time ,ratio is so inportant.

...and I get all the right answers for proper diagnosis after it became an open question.
