Susan,
Handling students with disabilities is highly regulated by the law. Make sure that anyone handling accommodations is well versed in the process.

ALICIA,
The enrollment agreement is part of the contract to the student. When they sign the enrollment agreement they state they have read and received a copy of the catalog. A combination of the two constitute the contract.
Patty Aronoff
When I first began working at our school a few years ago I sat with the Director several times while he read the enrollment agreement to applicants and answered any questions they had. He was thorough in reading each section word for word and then explaining what it meant. I think this is an excellent practice and I take the time to do it with each person who is starting at our school.
There are people who, given the opportunity, would just glance over a contract and sign. For instance, an applicant might not think much of the withdrawal and refund policy when signing the agreement because they are enrolling with the intention of graduating. After reading the policy to them, I think it's helpful to explain why it is important to be aware of the policy because life DOES happen and student sometimes withdraw. Suddenly the timeframes of the refund policy have more meaning to them.
I will use this as a way to understand the enrollment agreement and how to explain it to our students, as questions that I may have would potentially be the same as our students' inquiries. At that time, I would also review and modify the agreement to make it accessible to our students with disabilities.
The Enrollment Agreements is very important on the admission process and you are required to explain each section and answer questions.
michael,
The refund policy on the enrollment agreement must match exactly the policy as stated in the catalog.

Internal refund policies for potential students directed by Company compliance officer.
This is especially helpful with students that have contingencies on their enrollment agreement.
Sherry,
Excellent practice! By spending the extra time and going over the document word by word, you provide an opportunity for clarity and questions.
Patty Aronoff
Sherry,
The statement should receive a copy. The enrollment agreement and the catalog constitute a contract between the student and the school. They have every right to have a copy of both.
Patty Aronoff
Yes We go over it word for word with student and also give them time to read them it and ask any questions before they sign.
When our admissions staff have the student sign the agreement we also sign and keep a copy for our records. Does the students copy we sign have to be signed by the student also?
Olga,
It is part of the contract between the student and the school. It needs to be thoroughly explained and then revisited to make sure that the student understands what they are signing.
Patty Aronoff
