Meeting for the first time.

On the first day of class. I always go over the syllabus and the rules. I feel it is very important to be professional and in charge. While also trying to relate with them.

planning and prepperation

How you prepare for your courses is how the students will respond to the curriculum

Developing as an instructor

It is important as an instructor not only to develop personal abilities, but to show students how to achieve professionally in the real world

Delivering course content

Students learn in all types of ways. The best way to instruct is to vary your styles. Being prepared is most important for the instructor.

meeting the class for the first time

Upon meeting the class for the first time, this is the time you set the general tone for the module. You want to state not only what you expect the students to gain from class, but also how you expect class to function. This is the time you break the ice between yourself and the students, as well as the students with one another.

planning and prep

Having a clear blue print with goals and objectives set ahead of time gives not only you a base line for class, but also your students will have a road map leading them to success.

more open questions in classroom

I think I need to use more open questions in the classroom. to help engage the students.

Developing as an instructor

I think an instructor should radiate all three M's discussed. As a role 'Model' to students aspiring to enter the field after completion of their studies, as a classroom instruction 'Manager' and a general 'Motivator' to not only students but fellow teammates as well. The M's are like a tripod, how do two M's stand without the third?

Be A Star....On the Main-stage of Your Instruction Style!

Videotape YOU! It is a good idea to have yourself videotaped occasionally to see how you are really presenting yourself. Get ready! These are hard to watch! difficult as these tapes are to watch but are useful and valuable in fixing those things about ourselves that if truth is being told are more of a distraction to the students than helping them learn the content!

Keeping "IT" Real...

In my opinion, finding that balance between relating to students or enabling them is key. We all want to be liked and accepted by others no matter our roles. However I have learned that when teaching its the professionalism mixed with being human in the classroom that brings respect from the students!

Goals a Jump To Encouragement!

A simple and useful suggestion as relates to this training module, and the section on goals. Most of us do not have a positive feeling arise when we hear that word or have to sit down and really ask ourselves, honestly what goals did I create, work on and accomplish in the past six months? Or even during the previous year? Because goals often times start with strong and good intention, only to be set aside, put off and eventually forgotten. Try looking at the word goals differently, try to have goals mean something else for you in your head, so that when you present to the students "goals" they also understand and approach their goals with a whole different intention. And you see them as encouragement opportunities for you to use as you teach and guide them through the course!

The Common Negative Bond Students Find!

The Common negative bond students find and why you want to stop it from happening. Students come into the new classroom, often not knowing their peers in the class. And we have all learned that one of the best ways out of that occurred situation is to make a friend and make one fast! And the easiest way to turn a class stranger into a friend is to find something, anything you have in common with one another. This is where you (Instructor) comes in. Make sure that you start everyday out with an activity that gives them a positive reference point to bond over. IF you give them the chance to create a bond over the negative complaints, attitudes, or events, trust me they will and now you have a room full of negative students who have bonded from the negative, because they had to find something to say OR RISK a possible friendship. -alh

Engine building; safety and procedures

My class involves building an engine from the ground up.When completed, this engine must perform because upon completion, it is subjected to a series of dyno runs both in an almost factory stock state and a modified condition. Since the engine may very well exceed the factory established RPM level in it's modified state, it goes without saying that careful inspection, assembly practices and safety procedures play a very large role.I must say that I demand an all out effort on the part of the student plus I accept nothing other than the procedures and safety requirements that I laid out during class. As a result we are very successful and the student experience is top notch.

with adequate instructional materials and time students with learning disabilities can succeed with their educational goals

by organizing student learning groups, the instructor seeks a balance and sharing between all participants

Edu106

when beginning a lecture, it is important for the instructor to manipulate the entire classroom and make eye contact as much as possible

why do students learn at different paces?

I have a few students that learn the material very quickly as apposed to some that just can not get it. Am I doing something wrong?

Learning disabilities or not there's always one good method to learn

The best method for everyone to learn effectively is to repeat the key points over and over again. Then the book is just used for overview.

My success can be your success!

By telling short positive stories of my career gets most of my students motivated about the course and their future career goals. I know this is effective because I still get that feeling that "I can conquer the world" when I look back when I was a student and my teacher would motivate me with their success into thinking I can be successful too.

Big Class into small groups

Turning a big class into small groups creates a better learning environment than a large group of individuals attending one course. In intimate groups there is less anxiety amongst the students, and they are more likely to express their take on a subject. Another benefit is that the groups govern themselves as they find their individual actions reflect on the entire group's reputation.
