Teaching the disabled

In order to teach the disable, we must be educated about the different types disabilities.

New students

A new student helps a instructors to stay on her toes.

What number is right.

They say, 6-8 members in a group will help students to connect with each other and learn the subject more effectivily.

What do student need?

Students need an enviroment to feel at ease to learn.

COLORS THAT STIMULATE THINKING

I think colors can truly stimulate learners' mind because colors are first used for visual appealing then materials that are related to learning will be easily remembered in learners' mnemonics.

GROUP LEARNING

Group learning is definitely a quality initiative which can collaborate multiple intelligences to share their knowledge in such a way that lead them all to do the learning.

Skill Testing

Many of my students who do poorly on written exams are my best performers in skill application tests

Testing

I prefer to make tests using material we specifically covered in class as opposed to the textbook exams

Mannerism

When entering into a classroom you as an instructor should be very careful of your mind set because as soon as you walk through the door all eyes are on you and students are reading you like a hit on face book. I guess what I'm saying is that anything that is not pertaing to the subject you are teaching leave it outside the class it could effect your teaching and the way your students respond to you.

80/20

What students can do on their study time: •Review sessions including quiz games, contests, and fun ways to test learning •Silent reading •Answering questions from the instructor •Trying, on their own, something the instructor has just demonstrated •Filling in the blanks on a worksheet as the instructor lectures (guided note-taking) •Discussing pros and cons with the people at their table

Is this really neccessary for college

Who pays for all of this? I hardly have time for prep, now I should go out & buy Saf - t- Pops. Do I need to get safety sizzors too

REWARDS?

Since we cannot offer food/drink rewards or extra credit for the late comers, any idears? I am not giving a magical pen or a sticker.

Standardized Testing

We use the standardized tests that come with our books in our curriculum. I always make sure that I cover the material in our books that is going to be on the test. I will say, make sure you highlight this area, in some cases so they know what to study. Sometimes I will write my own tests if I don't like the questions in the standardized test.

testing styles

so far this year i have noticed that just like the learning styles of students differ, so do the test taking abilities. beyond the matter of studying, it never fails that certain students will excel with one type of test, ie: written, multiple choice and then get really nervous and struggle through the practical portion of the exam. we try to encourage good study habits, ask questions, seek out extra help, tutoring, office hours, practice at home etc., in order to be best prepared for the exam.

Quesstioning

I have my students prepare questions for each other to use as a review activity or game.

learning styles

I encourage students with different learning styles to study together

What are effective assessments?

Assessments should focus on your over all objective of what you wanted your students to take away from their course. Assessments can truly be in any shape or form, but must show the instructor what they have learned.

Assessments

The type of tests or assessments I implement are dependent on the material as well as the class. It seems that each class has its own uniquie personality.

Questioning

I do find that most often students do not participate due to the fear of being wrong. This is not the case. If I have a student give a wrong answer, this is a great opportunity to work together to solve the question correctly. This also keeps students engaged and maintains a healthy learning environment.

Evaluating Experntial Learning

the value of input on student performance from an on-site supervisor lets oyu know if what you teaching can be applied to a real time work sutition.
