Stress...it is an option

Stress is everywhere. It is at home, work grocery stores and family. How you take in stress and push it out is what matters. There needs to be a medium. Utilize hobbies, friends family and yourself to gain control. You have the power to be stress-free!

Being open and ready for all types

Just like people as individuals there are many types of bosses. Some may fit with your personaility and work ethic like a glove and others be the thorn in your side. As a corporation, all of us have to work together for the same goal.

Model Managers

Good employees often wonder how to approach their manager about issues and situations that have an effect on their job. For example, I have a part time hourly job and since my boss was going to take a day off, she generously invited me to do the same, seeing I had a very hectic month. Problem was, she was full time, I was not. She could afford to take a day off because she would be getting paid regardless. Whereas, if I did not work, I would not get paid. So I kindly explained this to her in an email and stated that I would be working from home as well as coming into the office throught the weekend. This was a touchy issue as this boss strikes me as the controlling type.

Ethics in the Workplace

In some workplaces people are so hung up on position power, that they do not lead by example. Leading by example, is the most effective form of leadership.

People Skills

I have always been asked why is it that my students always seem to love my class? After taking this class I can see why. I have always been a people person and I keep my class as motivated as I can.

stess in the workplace when you feel overloaded

just a thing that works for me... i break the assignment down into smaller managable parts i take a few mins betwween each completed part to either stretch or clear my mind befor taking on the next portion. this helps me re4duce stress

Determing the exact problems to your stress can be a challenge.

If you have so many issues on your plate at once, it is hard to determine which one to focus on.

Communicating with Graduate Students

Be careful when trying to be your employees friend!!

I have found that bosses who have not been trained to work in management sometimes don't know how to draw the line in the role as a manager/supervisor. It is never a good idea to become too relaxed with your employees. I'm not saying that as a manager/supervisor that you should be stand offish. You definitely have to be approachable but employees should never feel as if they can say or do anything around you. Becoming too friendly with employees can threaten the respect level they have for you as a boss. I've seen situations where a boss had to reprimand a friend and it didn't turn out so well. The employee took offense to her boss/friend for writing her up when it was well due. I've seen situations where an employee was told to do something by his boss/friend and they didn't do it because that level of respect was gone. Unless you have mature professional minded people, boss/employee friendships tend to never work. Any thoughts?

Bosses

A lot of this stuff is routine but also a great refresher to remind you what your boss goes through.

Faith and stress

Would you say that faith most likely hinders or helps in stress management?

Taking it in stride.

Stress is a part of everyday life for an executive. We learn to deal with it from day one. The key is to be in control of every aspect of the operation if possible. When I stay ahead of the curve then stress is much easier to deal with just because you have time to analyze it and produce a viable solution if possible.

Career Management

I found this information very helpful in teaching my students who are about to complete their studies, and begin their new career. This infomration will help them as they move forward on their sucessful paths. Their positive attitude and organization skills are priceless.

Stress managment

I look forward to trying the new things that I have learned during this course. One example includes the four step approach. Stop. Breath. Reflect. Choose. I think if I stop and think before I react I can manage stress better.

Important

The employee must perceive the training as valuable and be open to new ways of performing tasks.

Breaks

When does one know if taking some time off for vacation is the best way to manage/decrease stress?

Leadership

I have seen many types of leaders. The best ones know themselves and bring their employees along with them.

Sometimes it is just not ment to be

Not everyone is going to get along great or even work well together; however, sometimes having an extremely bad boss can make your professional life something that is unhealthy for you personally and/or for your carrer. This section gave me many great tips and ideas about work realtionships and how to keep them productive however; I would also add that with a bad boss your personal happiness/carrer goals might not matter to him/her at all. So, take resposiblity for those yourself. Keep an updated resume, keep up with job postings and know that if you are staying in the job with the bad boss it is ultimatly your choice; therefore, keep trying to make the most of it or help yourself move on.
