shared vision

It's funny how some times the extra student such as these lead to problems that are or is occuring now. Negative persons are every where in just about every job site, school, evry where where the goals are not the same or every one is not intune to the same end. The funny thing is you would think as short as life is they would find their nitch what makes them happy. How can a negative person possible want to stay where he is not happy. I have talked with a couple they insisted this is what they want but their actions their disposition does not support their answer or attitude.

com fortable Environment

I taught truck brakes and on the first day I would hand out one of the brake shoes. Tell me what's different between these and the ones on your car? when we were through with the discussion the relieve in the eyes told their own stories. I gained the students confidence then and there. After that what ever came up the students and I deal with without any "hoopla". When I explain the air system it's with dramalation and noises once the student gets past the fear it's over except for the shout.I try to make my lectures fun but informative and I usually get good results.

students as customers

I believe I have more than 1 customer. Granted my first and most imediate customer is my student. I need to nurish and develope my student so that they are employable and to the finish since my students will have to deal with the public my end customer is the public. I need to educate my students to progress first with knewledge then how to deal with customers

Mentor and Monitor

on the first day of class I meet and greet I ask students what they expect out of the class I ask them to tell me something about themselves I take notes and then I make reference to what they talked aboutor their expectations usually this makes them tell me something else I keep a note pad close and when the student leaves or when I can I jot down our conversation and that keeps me with fresh information that I can interject if I find a student losing interest. I make sure that the student knows that I am trust worthy and not going to let out anything he or she shares privatly with in reason of course

Team work

When you work as a team not only will you improve the retention but it will also make it a better place to work

Try to keep the motivated and incourage them along the way

If we take the time to listen to are students we can get to the root cause of there problems

Student integration

If a student is doing well in his/her studies and focus on keep going to class isn't he/she "probably" persist in school? or is not enough for a sutdent to persist in school. Dr. Banks please enlighten me.

First Week Enrollment

Late Enrollment: I would have thestudent sit in the front of the class so they would have a more up close and personal feeling to start in my class. Ray

Late students for Orientation

Student Packets

What a great idea! I think you can also put into factor al the important highlight of the rules and regulations into this packet to reinforce them. Also a our school we have 3 classes (Basic, intermediate and senior students) the packet would be a great way to notify the students of what they should expect in each section of their couse.

Online Orientation

How effective is Online Orientation. How would you know if the student even looked it

First day of Orientation

What could be a useful tactic to use when conducting orientation to keep students attentive to what is being said, insead of wondering into space.

Attendance

I work at a school that has new starts every week and I do Student Affairs. It is hard for me to take care of over 450 students by myself, does anyone have suggestions on rentention, or attendance that I can somehow communicae with the new students on their 1st week of school?

reg retention

As instructors we need to reinforce retention in our students by showing the value of their education. A good way to do this is to point out how this information and practice will affect them when they leave the learning environment and start working in the field. Questions like, “What will you do when “X” happens?,” “Are you ready to do this without help or practice?,” “Will the customer want to pay you for the level of work you provide?,” place them in the theoretical situation and make them think about what happens after all this, am I ready, will this help, etc and places a stronger value on the work they are doing.

Emotional Intelligence and Generation "y"

As we have seen generational challenges coming form students of all ages, recently generation "y" students (born 1980 and after) have brought a new set of diverse chalenges. Because they are ok with chalenging authority, bring technical skills with them and negotiate everything, including their own responsabilities, what are some solutions to addressing these challenges?
