It is important to post a biography about yourself to allow the student to know more about you. Students should also be requried to post a biography about themselves. It is important develop a relationship with the students even online. Students should be made to feel important inorder to keep them engaged and to produce a high quality of work.

I learned that a sense of community online is still significant. Instructors should not only share who they are, but students should offer a biography also.

I like the idea of short student biographies, but have found that students sometimes give the bare minimun or even lie on them.

This reinforced the importance of establish a personal relationship with each student, individually. I tend to address the class as a whole but neglect to focus on each individual. Having students post their bios and responding to each bio is a great idea. Setting up asynchronous discussions about non-course-related topics is also intriguing, although I might have to require students to participate, which makes it a little forced. Remembering the 24-hour turnaround time is also important.

I learned about establishing online authority (academic and professional) and how it is important to project that early on to students.  I learned about the importance of establishing relationships with your students (similar to face-to-face learning)

I believe taking the opportunity at the beginning of the course to introduce yourself and your credentials of both the instructor and the students is a very good way to start making connections for the rest of the course. Just because you are not all sitting in the same room doesn't mean you can't make those connections and use those connections to enhance learning throughout the course, both with the instructor and fellow students.

It is paramount in a learning environment that intructor is felt by students even in a virtual or online classes. Involving the students in the discussion, valuing their responses and creating constructive criticism if necessary as well as saying thank you for sharing their thoughts will let them feel that their instructor is present.

Online classes are a new concept for me. Getting to know them through a biography is a good way to knwo more about them.

I like the idea of having the students' first assignment to be writing a short biography, especially the fact that bullet points could be provided so they KNOW they are telling the teacher the information he/she is wanting to know and not just random stuff.  I also liked the idea of having a forum for general topics that might not be related to the topic/unit taught that week.

When I was giving our instructors guidlines how to set up and organize thier courses, I was always telling them to prepare a welcome note/announcement, explaining that  welcome post/note is the one of the first steps building the course and setting rapport along the students. I'm glad to see this recomendation here in this tarining course.

I learned that students feel more comfortable and have a better sense of security when they feel supported by the teacher as well as, get a feelng that the teacher has a vested interest in their success. I feel that I can facilitate this in my e learning classroom by being an active participant in student conversations as well as, supporting them during class by giving them individualized and positive constructive feedback.

I learned that it is very important to farmiliarize yourslf with students in e - learning. It is also vital to introduce yourself to students through your biography.

Being a positive influence is an important foundation to building relationships between instructor and e-learners.  Having a strong communication with the students will help them feel more comfortable to approach the instructor and have higher probablitily of success within the course.

It is important to establish authority in your online classroom , by providing an biography , showcasing achievements , professional experiences as well as educational experieces. Having students to do a short biography also allows me to know get to them and them to get to know each other. making my presense known gives the opportunity to motivate energize and inspire my students.I truly believe that students will feel more inspired knowing that you show respect for them and that you understand thier needs.

It is important to know your students. You can do this through student bios and know the weaknesses of your students to better assist them. Be in control of your class and let the students know that you are there to help them regarding all the questions.

Instructor presence and establishing a trusting relationship with students is important. I feel I have a good start on this and will continue to work towards these ideals.

I learned the importance of getting to know your online students. I love the idea of the short biography for both the instructor and the students.

I learned about how to keep students more engaged in an online setting by sharing by biodata and knowledge of theirs as well.  The student needs to know my qualifications as well as hobbies so they know who I am.  I know when I have completed online courses, I wanted to know who my instructor was and not feel like I was only talking to an electronic hole.

the techniques for engagings students who seem checked out are useful. I had not considered using students questions or answers as ways to help engage them in th material. It can be dificult to stay engaged in an online learning environment and anyway to alleviate this can be very helpful.

This module reminds me that the online course is very similiar to the tradtional classroom.  For example students want to get to know me and my professional background and experience.   Additionally, it is vital to build a rapore and relationship with my students.
