Communication on the phone

I was happy to see in most of your course you gave a number of ways to over come the communication on the phone. To Active listening and to create a list of items to cover in a limited time frame will help me with my new job and being prepared, gave me a number of ideas on being prepared once I start making my my phone calls. I will print out a list from start of my conversation to the end of what I need to communicate and the importants of staying on track and time frame.

Methods Of Communication

I would add emails to part of my commucation methods because I'm not that familar with it. I know that this can be a very effective way to connect with someone. My goal is to become stronger in areas that I'm weak in.

We think we listen well

Most of us think we listen well, but don’t. Not really hearing what others are trying to say can get costly. When people don’t feel heard they tend to get irritated, confused, and pull away from each other. Is amazing how not listening can affect us in different area of our lives; personal, as individuals and mostly in our jobs. What is been working for me is Try listening to one person or thing at a time. Forget trying to multi-task and do zillion of stuff at the same time. Just focus in one conversation.

Cost concerns/Financial Aid

What do you do when a student asks if they will qualify for financial aid and if so how much they can receive?

Transportation Assistance

Is it best to offer the student ride share possibilities after they have exasperated their own personal options for transportation?

Making the Connection

Having clear understanding of the audience who you are speaking to,is vital. Must always think the answers through before communicating, to sound clear and assertive. Once prepared to speak with said audience, it will make it an easier duty to build relationship with them.

People say I'm very quiet any they think i'm not freindly, but the truth is that I am shy.I guess I need to work on that.

Advanced Listening Skills

Usually I limit my listening by finishing what they are going to say and rationalizing the possible answers. I will give them time to express their concerns or questions until they have made their point and see how I can help them.

I limit my listening skills by thinking about other things that I may be more interested in or if I have alot of things to do that day I am thinking about that.

Principles of Communications

It very helpful to have eye contact with everyone in the room; also always try to ask open ended questions for more feedback. I restate the answers to questions answered to make sure that I am properly listening and viewing everyone’s point of view.

I try to focus on the student. I also alternate my eye contact to any one else that is with the student such as family members.

Methods Of Communication

Personally I find that the face to face communication is more to the point and clearer, there is no room for misunderstang and you can get immeadiate feedback by the body langauge as well.

I felt that this was a excellent practice. It can be helpful to run your written communications past someone with. This person can look for errors.

The steps in the hierarchy process has shown me how effective and easy it is to accomplish. Especially when it comes to Mutual Interest.

What has worked for me in the past when working on multitask is to close my office door.

Would like to make a basic list of every item to cover. When talking on the phone. This way it could be given to each dept. And we could all be on the same page.

Community Programs

We have recently begun a professional development program at our facility. The staff enjoyed it despite the fact that it took place on a Sunday. We gave surveys to assess satisfaction and the scores were high. We also have career day at high schools, participate in health expos, and job fairs. Last year, we partook in a few blood drives and the turnout was not the best but it still helped a great cause. We also At least once a year we have a Blood Drive to help the shortage of blood in our community.Additionally, a food and clothing drive was held at our school to help a school in need. We would like to continue to develop professional development at our school and encourage club activity once the school grows.

Marketing

The student uniforms and Ids have the logo of the school. We also recently gave them lanyards to hang their ids with the name of the school. Additionally, the students received bags, pens and coffee mugs with the school name and logo. We also have buses and bench around Miami with the school information listed on them. We have been working actively to increase our name in the community. We are also looking to attend and participate in more health fairs. We had a Television commercial in the past and are exploring developing another one. Additionally, we also have contacted radio stations and exploring a commercial. We have a committee that works on marketing and additionally our student advisors keep in close contact with former students. The student advisor also inform alumni of new programs being offered. The material I have learned will be shared with both the committee and the advisors. The internet has become a wonderful tool between our facebook page and our school website which is frequently updated.

Reaching out to the Community

As mentioned in my previous post, we have strong ties to the community. We currently attend and partake in job fairs and presentations at high school. We have opened a facebook page and that has opened several doors for us. We have a plan set in motion and we have ensured that it is carried through. Consistency is key in our company. We have a PR chair and she is responsible for managing the marketing and community events. Additionally, we have a team that works together to do the job fair or the talks at the high schools. Furthermore, we are getting more involved in outreach programs at hopsitals.
