New to the Industry

I am very new to this industry! what is the most challanging part?

Departmenatal Finance Training

What training or practices has your educational institutional implemented to ensure Admissions Personnel have an understanding of Federal Financial Aid programs, and how does the institution facilitate interdepartmental connectivity between the Financial Aid and Admissions departments?

Earning Credits vs. Transferring Credits

The school that I work for is a work-from-home art program in which the students can earn college credits. The problem that we run into is that parents want to know how many credits will they earn for completing our program. We tell them that it is recommended for "up to 24". Since it is up to the college or university that they will later be attending, we can't answer know for sure. Also, if they go and ask that college or university, well, what do you expect them to say? "Sure, go ahead and take that course instead of ours and when you're finished, we would love to give away our credits instead of you earning them here." Not likely. I understand that we are a different program than most, so this is a unique situation. However, we can't really "encourage" them to go around and ask colleges and universities about credits because no one in their right mind would tell them to take our course first.

Staying up to date.

Like I stated before we use the intranet to keep up to date on our school as well as accreditation. Company wide emails are also sent of anything that cause company changes.

Knowing your school

We use an intranet to help keep us up to date on what is happening with our school as well as sister schools.

enrollment agreement

It is always important to review the enrollment agreement with students.

I understand how I need to do my job

I understand how I need to do my job now and how to do it correctly.

Understanding

I feel I have a better understanding of the way Miami-Jacobs works.

Admission Process PaperWork

Hello, I enjoyed going over the admission process. Thank you for all the information.

Compliance

Compliance is an important topic because it can effect the school's accreditation and create problems down the line.

Compliance

Being compliant is very neccessary. You need to disclose all the information to all the parties available.

Communication is Key to a well functioning school

It is important to keep in direct contact with all departments from admissions, financial aid, career services and educators as well. By keeping lines of communication clear through all departments, each department is easily able to go to another department for assistance. By doing this, the school offers the best opportunities for it's students by having everyone within the school on the same page.

It os vital for the schools to keep the agents update

In an continuing effort to provide our students with the utmost customer service there has to be current and consistant disimulation of correct information.

Becoming Familiar with Everything

I have found that it's not easy becoming familiar with EVERYTHING right away that is associated with our school, but as time moves on (and I have been pacing myself) and I attend as many meetings (staff, faculty, department, all-school, orientations, program advisory, off-site workshops and trainings) as possible and familiarize myself with our regulatory and accrediting bodies, as well as our employers and other outside entities, it's becoming easier for me. A helpful support staff and wonderful co-workers has helped immensely too. Does anyone have any other ideas on how I can become more acclimated into my new position/school?

Social Networking

My school doesn't currently use social networking as an advertising or recruiting tool. I'm excited to help implement social networking into our usual practices. I think Career Services could benefit from ie. FB by "keeping up" with our alumni, and that Student Services could keep better contact with our current students as well. I think social networking will benefit our student body (both present and past students) as an alternate means of connecting with our school and administration.

The EA must be PERFECT!

In my previous experience (working with Admissions from other departments: Education and Student Services), I know that the EA MUST be completed perfectly, or the student's start can be inhibited. The EA is key to the student's paperwork and admission becoming a reality. If the EA is not completed properly, signed, etc., then the rest of the admissions process for the student is halted, and sometimes even their start date has to be set back.

Scholarship Regulations

I noticed that there was no information concerning scholarships. Are there state regulations regarding scholarships?

The language of competitive

It is wonderful to have this opportunity to talk about the necessity to be careful when talking about competitors. The art of being able to avoid talking about them helps us grown in highlitghting our strengths. It would be nice to know how other reps feel about this.

Default avoidance

This is a serious issue for many students and is probably a topic that many want to avoid. As representatives it would be interesting to know how others approach the topic or if it is left solely to financial aid to handle.

Placement opportunities after graduation

It is necessary to talk to students about realistic expectations. it would be nice to see how other reps go about having this conversation and yet avoid putting a damper on the students expectations.
