Ask a question from your peers to help you in your professional work. Seek different points of view on a topic that interests you. Start a thought-provoking conversation about a hot, current topic. Encourage your peers to join you in the discussion, and feel free to facilitate the discussion. As a community of educators, all members of the Career Ed Lounge are empowered to act as a discussion facilitator to help us all learn from each other.

Use-it-Wisely Cards

This is another ill-conceived suggestion. Don't we want our students to participate, and indeed, have all of their questions answered? For every student who asks a question, there are several more that want to know the answer but are afraid to speak up.

Shaming Students

One of the videos advocated shaming employees (in our case, students) to manipulate their behavior. This suggestion is reprehensible. I don't care if it brings about results; shaming another human being is never a good thing, period. The persons who should be ashamed are the lecturer in the video and the people at this institution who allowed this nonsense to be included in the curriculum.

ED110,time and stress management for instructors

to me, my logic seems to apply to the first quiz. I would only add that personalities have not been discussed or even mentioned. I think everyones logic has to do with their individual personalities as they relate to the subject. what is important or logical to one may not belogical to another.

encouraging students to work to their full potential

Any suggestions on how to direct students that do not apply themselves to learn or to participate in class specially when you notice that this student has the potential to succeed.

Calendars

A good calendar system is key to a good todo list

Stress

I agree with the module's contention that exercise is a good way to deal with stress. Sometimes I make excuses and claim I don't have enough time to exercise, but ultimately, I end up more frustrated, stressed, and unhappy than if I had just exercised. More time is wasted feeling sorry for myself than anything. I use the P90X dvd's, and have found that even doing half the workout is a great stress reliever!

Not enough time in the day!

Generally, I get stressed in regards to the number of tasks that need to be completed every day - the schedule is relentless! I plan to use some of the suggestions in regards to faster classroom preparation to assist in making more time every day!

Organization

I currently teach three classes, and I don't have the benefit of having an office at the school. I've found that creating different sections within the bag I carry to school every day helps me stay organized, as well as keeping papers organized and grouped. This can be challenging, but it forces me to remain organized!

To Do List

I've found that including even simple things on my to do lists... "check email", etc. give me a sense of accomplishment. I then feel motivated to continue completing items and crossing them off.

late assignments

I try to stick to the syllabus and its statements of the rules for late assignments, but I also take into account the individuals personal issues as they are brought to my attention.

Mistakes

As a instructors your personal life should be separate from class discussion, unless you are trying to make a vital point to help the student in some way. Keeping it professional and on target of the content helps keep the students focused and not having them drift away.

Cheating

Student cheating should not be tolerate at all. He/ she will be cheating themself from the education they are suppose to be gaining. Some type of disciplinary act should be taken.

Student who lose focus

Engage conversation about the class lecture with all student in the class. Motivate the stduent to become proactive with the class lectures. Feedback helps let the instructor know he/ she is making some progress with all the students, especially the ones who lose focus.

Clarity

By providing clarity to the students it helps with their expectations of the course in general

stress management

Stress is something that we all must endure. Balancing lifes hurdles is sometimes difficult. I sometimes have to evaluate what I am doing and how much I am taking on. Over committing to work and family can be overwhelming and very stressful. Taking time out to do something that is good such as exercise or hanging out with friends can re focus us.

mistakes

MISTAKES ARE MADE, BUT A TEACHER ALWAYS HAVE TO CHECK HER MATERIALS ALWAYS THE NEXT DAY TO BE READY?

Types of To_do Lists

I am in the process of starting to use to-do lists. I would like to know if anyone has had better results with paper, a tablet, tablet PC, or just plain sticky notes. As i am an IT person I automatticaly go for the technolgy parts.

what's stressing me out

just like a majority of people... I feel like I am constantly running after time both personally and at work. Also, changes in the structure of work hours and work pay is causing me a lot of stress lately.

Managing Stress

I often find that any change of environment during the day can reduce stress. But some workers are stuck in their environment. How can they simulate an environmental change? Screen savers? Office art? Background music?

Good Stress

If someone looks at work-related stress as a challenge, it can often be a motivator. But how does one tell the difference between good and bad stress?
